New Delhi, 23 August (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently interacted with young leaders of startups working in the space sector and assured them that the government was committed to creating an environment in which entrepreneurs could take risks with confidence, knowing that they would not be left without support.
The interaction, held at the Prime Minister’s residence on Friday, was released in a video on Sunday on the occasion of National Space Day. During the conversation, PM Modi told the young startup leaders that they had demonstrated courage by entering a new and challenging sector and, most importantly, had placed their trust in the government.
Sharing the video on X, PM Modi said he had met some of India’s most promising space startups and was deeply impressed by their energy and ambition. He said their vision and optimism would be inspiring and asked what excited them most about India’s journey in space.
During the interaction,PM Modi said the government’s approach had been to maintain consistency in its decisions and avoid frequent policy changes. He said this was intended to give entrepreneurs the confidence to take risks, knowing that even if something went wrong because of an error on their part, the government would continue to stand by them.
A young entrepreneur told PM Modi that the company had received strong traction globally and that government support had played an important role in helping Indian companies expand their exports.
Responding to the entrepreneur,PM Modi highlighted India’s competitive advantages, including cost efficiency, a strong talent pool and the country’s willingness to take risks. He said these strengths could enable India to establish itself rapidly on the global stage.
Another young startup leader said the opening up of the space sector had brought about a significant change, with Indians working in Europe and the United States increasingly expressing an interest in returning and contributing to India’s space ecosystem.
PM Modi said India needed to attract talent from across the world by creating an environment in which professionals working in the space sector would feel that India was the right place to build their careers. He encouraged global talent to join Indian startups or work with the country’s space institutions.
The Prime Minister said India could use its startups and expanding space ecosystem as a magnet to attract the global talent pool, describing this as a potential major strength for the country.
India’s private space sector has made significant progress in recent years, with startups increasingly involved in developing satellites, launch vehicles and advanced space technologies. Companies such as Agnikul Cosmos, Skyroot Aerospace and Pixxel have contributed to the expansion of India’s private space capabilities, helping drive innovation, investment and global competitiveness in the sector.
