Thrissur, 23 August (H.S.):A young migrant worker couple from Assam died after being electrocuted at a poultry farm at Thalassery in Desamangalam, Thrissur district, on Sunday morning.

The deceased were identified as 26-year-old Shefiqul and his wife, Ruksana, 23. The accident occurred at a poultry farm operating at Koottupara Kunnu in Thalassery. The farm is owned by Ashraf, a resident of Desamangalam.

According to preliminary information, an electric fence had been installed around the poultry farm to prevent dogs and other animals from entering the premises and attacking the birds. Police suspect that the couple accidentally came into contact with the electrified fencing while carrying out their routine work at the farm.

The couple had arrived for work at around 9 a.m. The electrocution reportedly occurred shortly afterwards while they were engaged in their duties. Both suffered a severe electric shock and died in the incident. Further details regarding the exact sequence of events and whether safety measures had been followed at the farm are being examined.

Shefiqul and Ruksana are survived by their two children. Their sudden deaths have left fellow workers and local residents shocked. Information regarding the care and present whereabouts of the children was not immediately available.

The bodies were shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Thrissur for post-mortem examination. They will be handed over to relatives after the completion of the required legal procedures.

Cheruthuruthy police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation. Officers are expected to inspect the electrical fencing and ascertain whether it had been installed and operated in accordance with safety regulations. Statements from the poultry farm owner, other workers and local residents are also likely to be recorded as part of the inquiry. Authorities have not yet announced whether action will be taken against farm owner.
