Guwahati, 23 August (HS): The Kapoor Chand Jain Memorial Library was inaugurated on Sunday at Shri Digamber Jain Vidyalaya, Mahavir Bhawan, Guwahati. The library was inaugurated by Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka.

The programme was organised by Shri Digamber Jain Panchayat Guwahati and Shri Digamber Jain Vidyalaya to honour the memory of Late Kapoor Chand Jain, a respected social worker, writer and community member who made significant contributions to education, literature and social service.

The ceremony was attended by Guwahati Municipal Corporation Mayor Mrigen Sarania, Ward Councillors Promod Swami and Saurav Jhunjhunwala, President of Shri Digamber Jain Panchayat Mahavir Jain, Hansraj Rara, MP Chabra and Hiramani Devi Jain, wife of Late Kapoor Chand Jain. A large number of community members and students of Shri Digamber Jain Vidyalaya also attended the event.

Governor Ramen Deka paid tribute to Late Kapoor Chand Jain and recalled his contribution to literature and society. Jain was associated with Shri Digamber Jain Vidyalaya for more than five decades and made literary contributions in Assamese, Hindi, English and Bengali.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Deka encouraged students and citizens to make greater use of libraries and highlighted the importance of books and print media in gaining knowledge. Recalling his early experiences with libraries, he said they played an important role in shaping his learning.

The Governor also urged students to remain positive and treat failures as opportunities to work harder and move forward with greater determination. He spoke about the importance of saving money, respecting parents' efforts and spending responsibly. To encourage the habit of saving, he presented traditional matkas to several students.

Governor Deka also emphasised the importance of charity and helping others with a portion of one's resources. Conveying his regards to the Jain community, he highlighted Ahimsa as an important principle and stressed the responsible use and conservation of natural resources, particularly water.

The Kapoor Chand Jain Memorial Library is expected to carry forward Late Kapoor Chand Jain's legacy of knowledge, education, literature and social service while encouraging future generations to develop a habit of reading and learning.---------
