Thiruvananthapuram, 23 August (H.S.):Isolated heavy rainfall is likely across Kerala on Sunday, with northern districts expected to receive the most intense showers, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Yellow alerts have been issued for Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad and Kozhikode districts. The renewed spell of rain has been attributed to a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. The IMD has also indicated the possibility of another low-pressure area forming over the region.
Moderate rainfall is likely at isolated places across all districts, accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph.
Yellow alerts have been issued for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts on Monday. Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam will remain under a yellow alert on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along the Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts from Sunday until Tuesday. Squally winds with speeds ranging from 35 kmph to 45 kmph and gusting up to 55 kmph are likely over these coastal areas.
Winds reaching speeds of 45 kmph to 55 kmph and occasionally touching 65 kmph are forecast along the Somalia coast, the west-central Arabian Sea and adjoining southwest Arabian Sea on Sunday.
Similar conditions are expected over the south Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, adjoining Kanyakumari region, southwest Bay of Bengal near the southern Sri Lankan coast and parts of the west-central Bay of Bengal.
Strong winds with speeds of 40 kmph to 50 kmph and gusting up to 60 kmph are also likely until Monday along the West Bengal, Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts.
Rough weather is expected over the adjoining west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea. Fishermen operating in these regions have been urged to exercise caution and strictly follow official weather advisories while monitoring further official weather updates closely.
