
Kokrajhar (Assam), 23 August (HS): A potential elephant-train collision was averted after the loco pilot and assistant loco pilot of Train No. 75742 Down Dhubri-Siliguri DEMU spotted a herd of elephants moving along the railway track near kilometre 68/1 of the Nagrakata-Chalsa rail section last night.
Loco Pilot Arunabh Mitra and Assistant Loco Pilot Tapas Kumar Karji immediately controlled the speed of the train after noticing the elephants on the track. Their timely action allowed the herd to safely move away from the railway line.
The alertness of the railway crew ensured the safety of the elephants and prevented a possible accident. The incident highlights the importance of vigilance by railway personnel in protecting wildlife and preventing elephant-train collisions in elephant habitats.----------
