New Delhi, 23 August (H.S.):
A 30-year-old woman, who had married around four months ago, died under suspicious circumstances in Bharathal village of Delhi’s Dwarka district. The deceased, identified as Nazia Khanam, was serving as an Assistant Section Officer in the Ministry of Defence. The family initially raised no suspicion or allegations against her in-laws, but her parents lodged a complaint against her husband and other members of her matrimonial family the following day. A case has since been registered at the Sector 23 Dwarka police station and an investigation is underway.
According to police, a PCR call was received at around 4:21 pm on August 21 regarding the woman’s death in Bharathal village. SI Satpal Dagar, along with a police team, immediately reached the spot. The body was taken into police custody and the concerned Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) was informed. Following the necessary legal formalities, the body was kept in the mortuary of a hospital.
Dwarka Deputy Commissioner of Police Kushal Pal Singh said on Sunday that the deceased, Nazia Khanam, was the daughter of Tawab Khan. She married Mohammad Azam Ali Khan on April 11, 2026, according to Muslim customs. Following the marriage, she was living at her matrimonial home while working as an Assistant Section Officer in the Ministry of Defence.
After her death, members of Nazia’s family appeared before the Executive Magistrate on August 21 and recorded their statements. Police said that in their statements at the time, the family members did not express any suspicion or make any allegation against the woman’s husband or any member of her in-laws’ family.
However, on August 22, the deceased’s parents appeared before the SDM again and submitted a complaint alleging wrongdoing by her husband and other members of her matrimonial family. Based on the facts mentioned in the complaint, FIR No. 214/2026 was registered at Sector 23 Dwarka police station on August 22 under Sections 85 and 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police said the investigation is in progress. Further legal action will be taken based on the evidence and facts that emerge during the course of the investigation.
