Indian cricketer Shubman Gill is excited about taking charge of Fazilka Falcons in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League and said the presence of several young and talented players would make the tournament a valuable opportunity for everyone to learn and share experiences.

The Sher-e-Punjab T20 League is scheduled to begin on August 30 at the I.S. Bindra Stadium in Chandigarh. Six teams will compete for the title, providing several promising young cricketers from Punjab with an opportunity to showcase their talent. Gill, who is the captain of the Indian Test and ODI teams, will lead Fazilka Falcons in the competition.

Speaking about his captaincy and the squad, Gill said he was extremely excited to lead Fazilka Falcons and looked forward to working and playing alongside the team’s talented and exciting group of players. He described the tournament as a valuable opportunity for the players to learn from one another while playing quality cricket.

Gill also praised the Punjab Cricket Association for organising the league and creating an important platform for young cricketers from the state to advance their careers.

He said the league would allow emerging players to compete against experienced and high-quality cricketers, gain valuable exposure and demonstrate their abilities. Gill expressed hope that several players would use the tournament as a stepping stone towards bigger opportunities in their careers.

Gill is also keen to share his experience with the young players in the Fazilka Falcons squad. He believes that confidence, understanding match situations and the ability to make the right decisions under pressure are crucial qualities for developing cricketers.

The India batter said young players need to believe in their abilities and remain composed in pressure situations. He added that he wanted to help them develop a better understanding of the game, including reading match conditions, making the right decisions and handling pressure. According to Gill, these qualities develop with experience, and sharing lessons from his own career would be a rewarding opportunity for him as well.

Winning the tournament will undoubtedly be a primary objective for Fazilka Falcons, but Gill believes the success of the league should also be measured by the opportunities and development it provides to young players.

He said the team would certainly aim to lift the trophy, but for him, success would also mean seeing how much the younger members of the squad develop throughout the tournament.
