India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill has completed 3,000 runs in Test cricket, becoming the fourth-youngest Indian batter to reach the landmark. Gill achieved the feat on Sunday, the opening day of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

Gill needed just seven runs before the match to reach the milestone. He brought up his 3,000th Test run in the 23rd over by hitting a boundary off Keshara Nuwantha. Gill reached the landmark at the age of 26 years and 349 days, moving ahead of former India captain Kapil Dev, who had completed 3,000 Test runs at the age of 26 years and 356 days.

Legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for being the youngest Indian to score 3,000 Test runs. Tendulkar reached the milestone at just 23 years and 228 days. Explosive opener Virender Sehwag is second on the list, having achieved the feat at 26 years and 157 days, while Dilip Vengsarkar reached the mark at 26 years and 263 days.

Gill crossed the 3,000-run mark in his 43rd Test. Before the ongoing match, he had scored 2,993 runs in 42 Tests, including 11 centuries and eight half-centuries.
