Hooghly, 22 August (H.S.): Uttarpara MLA Dipanjan Chakraborty on Saturday issued a statement seeking to allay confusion among toto and auto drivers over the operation of e-rickshaws on GT Road. He said the confusion had arisen due to an inadvertent communication error on the part of the administration and assured drivers that no unilateral decision would be taken.
Chakraborty said any further decision would be taken only after discussions with all stakeholders and on the basis of consensus. He urged toto and auto drivers facing any difficulty or problem to visit any of his four offices and meet him directly. He assured that their concerns and suggestions would be heard seriously and necessary steps would be taken.
The MLA also said he was committed to taking legal action against the concerned administrative official whose communication failure had allegedly resulted in the unnecessary confusion.
Chakraborty made it clear that every decision would be taken keeping the interests of hardworking toto and auto drivers in mind. He appealed to the drivers not to be misled by rumours or confusion.
The MLA’s statement comes amid growing uncertainty over the operation of totos on GT Road in recent days. On Saturday, toto drivers had also staged a demonstration demanding alternative employment opportunities.
