New Delhi, 22 August (H.S.): The 34th Rajasthani Folk Dance Competition, the 10th Subhash Lakhotia Shravan Kumar Award and the 14th Rajasthani Painting Competition will be held at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in New Delhi on October 9. Rajasthani Academy president Dr Gaurav Gupta announced this on Saturday.
He said the Rajasthani Folk Dance Competition would provide an opportunity to showcase the folk dance traditions of different regions of Rajasthan in the national capital. Through their performances, artists will present a captivating glimpse of Rajasthan’s diverse folk cultures, traditional costumes, folk melodies and indigenous dance forms. The event will also provide Rajasthani families residing in Delhi, as well as art enthusiasts from other states, an opportunity to gain a closer understanding of the state’s rich cultural heritage.
The 14th Rajasthani Painting Competition, to be organised as part of the event, will also see artists portraying Rajasthan’s folk traditions, rural life, folk deities, fairs, festivals and cultural heritage on canvas. The competition aims to encourage young and emerging painters while providing a wider platform for the distinctive artistic traditions of Rajasthan.
The Subhash Lakhotia Shravan Kumar Award continues the tradition of honouring individuals and personalities who have made notable contributions to society and culture and who have devoted themselves selflessly to the care and service of their parents.
The annual event is organised with the objective of taking Rajasthan’s folk culture, art and traditions to the younger generation in the national capital and strengthening the connection of Rajasthani communities living outside the state with the cultural heritage of their homeland. Rajasthan’s rich folk culture has carved out a distinctive identity both in India and across the world. Folk dance, folk music, painting and traditional art forms remain vibrant expressions of the state’s cultural heritage.
