Guwahati, 22 August (HS): The protest by cab drivers at Jorabat continued for the third consecutive day on Saturday, with the agitation intensifying over alleged incidents involving Assam vehicles and drivers in Meghalaya.

Protesters have blocked the movement of vehicles coming from Meghalaya into Assam. They said the agitation would continue until senior officials visit the spot and tender an apology. The cab drivers have also demanded compensation for vehicles damaged during the recent unrest in Meghalaya.

The protesters further warned that they would not withdraw the agitation until the Meghalaya government assures the safety of drivers from Assam. The continuing blockade has affected vehicular movement along the Assam-Meghalaya border, with tensions mounting in the area.

Meanwhile, a crucial meeting between Assam and Meghalaya is scheduled to be held shortly at Koinadhara to discuss the situation. Assam Minister Atul Bora is expected to represent the state, while a delegation from the Meghalaya government is also likely to attend.

Meanwhile, several tourists from Assam are reportedly still stranded at different locations in Meghalaya. Their families have urged the authorities to take immediate steps to facilitate their safe return to Assam.---------
