Bhubaneswar, 22 August (H.S.): Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati on Saturday urged graduates of Silicon University to leverage emerging technologies and pursue careers, research and entrepreneurship in clean energy and environmental sectors, saying their interdisciplinary knowledge could help develop practical solutions to some of the world’s pressing challenges.
Addressing the 3rd Convocation of Silicon University here, Kambhampati said areas such as energy storage, smart grids, green hydrogen, electric mobility, energy efficiency and sustainable manufacturing offered significant opportunities for young professionals.
“Turn ideas into enterprises that solve real problems,” he told the graduates, highlighting the growing importance of renewable energy amid climate change, environmental degradation and rising energy demand. Instability in West Asia, he said, had also highlighted the close links between energy security, economic stability and global peace.
The Governor said India is steadily moving towards cleaner energy sources, with solar, wind, hydropower, biomass, geothermal and ocean energy set to play an increasingly important role in shaping the 21st century.
He also asked students to prepare for rapid technological transformation, with artificial intelligence, machine learning, semiconductors, cybersecurity, robotics, advanced electronics, data science and digital healthcare opening up new frontiers. The ability to continuously learn, innovate and work across disciplines would, he said, help shape the leaders of tomorrow.
“Do not merely adapt to change; embrace it with curiosity, shape it with innovation and use it with wisdom,” Kambhampati said, urging the graduates to use technology to advance society and the nation.
Describing the convocation as a transition from achievement to responsibility, the Governor said a degree was not merely a certificate but a reminder to use knowledge wisely and serve society. Technology alone, he said, could not guarantee human progress, and must be accompanied by integrity, humility and responsibility.
Congratulating the graduates, their families, faculty and staff, Kambhampati said Silicon University had built a strong reputation for academic excellence, innovation and technological advancement. He cited its recognition as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO) for 2026-28 and its presence in the NIRF Engineering rankings as indicators of its growing research culture.
He expressed confidence that the university would further expand its academic and research horizons and urged the graduates to contribute to India’s development through their ideas, skills, entrepreneurship and character.
Doctoral degrees and gold medals were conferred at the convocation, while degree recipients also took a pledge
Chairman of the Board of KPOINT Technologies Dr Sridhar Balchandra Shukla attended the occasion as chief guest and addressed the gathering. Silicon University Vice-Chancellor Dr Jaideep Talukdar delivered the welcome address.
