Guwahati, 22 August (HS): Joymoti, a 53-year-old female elephant rescued from floodwaters on Assam-Nagaland border in July, has been airlifted to Vantara in Jamnagar for specialised veterinary treatment.
Joymoti suffered multiple injuries, including wounds to her forehead, ear, abdomen and thigh. She also has severe damage to her right eye and a longstanding problem with her left hind leg.
After receiving initial treatment locally, veterinarians recommended advanced care considering her age, injuries and mobility issues. Air transport was chosen to minimise the physical strain of a long road journey.
At Vantara, Joymoti will undergo a detailed medical assessment and receive treatment, nutritional support and other specialised care. Officials clarified that the transfer is temporary and solely for medical treatment.-----------
