Prayagraj, 22 Aug (HS): The five-day farmer training program

under the Sub Mission on Agriculture Extension (ATMA) Scheme

sponsored by the Agriculture Department, Bhadohi at the Directorate of

Extension, SHUATS, Prayagraj concluded at the Directorate of Extension.

At the closing ceremony, Director of Extension, Dr. Praveen

Charan, informed farmers that using agroforestry alongside farming can generate

additional income. He stated that if a farmer follows the principles of

agroforestry on their farm, they can also have the opportunity to cultivate the

intervening land alongside forestry, where they can earn additional income by

cultivating medicinal crops, turmeric, mustard, basil, flowers, and vegetables.

Addressing the farmers, he explained that due to the easy availability of

chemical fertilizers over the past few years, farmers have virtually stopped

using indigenous fertilizers like compost and green manure, reducing the

availability of organic matter in the soil.

Consequently, chemical fertilizers

are failing to fully contribute to the availability of nutrients in the soil.

Consequently, despite the use of abundant chemical fertilizers, farmers'

productivity is failing to increase. Chemical fertilizers also work only when

there is abundant organic matter in the soil. Therefore, farmers should use

compost manure, Nadep compost, vermicompost, etc. in abundance in their farming

so that the soil can be supplied with organic matter. He congratulated the

farmers for participating in the five-day training program and wished them a

bright future. Director of Extension, Dr. Praveen Charan, presented

certificates and training literature to the participating farmers.

In the closing ceremony, Joint Director Extension Prof.

(Dr.) A.K. Chaurasia provided detailed information to farmers on seed

production techniques. Scientist Dr. Manish Kumar Kesarwani gave detailed

information to farmers on how to achieve higher production at lower costs. On

the last day of the training program, Dr. Yogesh Chandra Srivastava provided

detailed information to farmers on soil health management and Dr. Manish Kumar

Kesarwani introduced farmers to various techniques of value addition and

processing.

Scientists Dr. Shailendra Kumar Singh, Dr. T.D. Mishra, Dr.

Sarvendra Kumar, and Dr. Yogesh Chandra Srivastava were present at the program.

Training coordinator Dr. Shishir Kumar concluded the program by thanking the

Director of Extension, agricultural scientists, and trainee farmers.
