The chargesheet has been presented before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kupwara, in FIR No. 18/2026, registered under Sections 420, 468, 471 and 201 RPC.

According to the investigation, the case originated from a written complaint alleging that the accused had defrauded the complainant of lakhs of rupees by falsely promising to secure a government job for him.

The accused allegedly strengthened the deception by providing the complainant with a fake and forged appointment order, purportedly issued by the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of J&K Bank.

Following the complaint, the matter was taken up for investigation. During the probe, investigators examined the available evidence and other relevant material. The allegations levelled against the accused were subsequently found to be substantiated during investigation, following which the case was concluded as proved and the chargesheet was submitted before the competent court for judicial determination.

Crime Branch officials said that Abdul Majeed Mir is a habitual offender and has allegedly been involved in 15 different criminal cases across the Kashmir Valley.

The accused was arrested on July 18, 2026, and is presently lodged in Central Jail Srinagar in connection with FIR No. 12/2026 of Police Station Economic Offences Wing Kashmir, Crime Branch J&K.

The Crime Branch J&K has meanwhile urged members of the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent job offers and economic scams, particularly those involving promises of government employment against payment of money.

The agency has advised people to verify the authenticity of appointment orders and official communications before making any payment or sharing personal information.

The public has also been advised to report any suspicious or fraudulent activity to the SSP, Economic Offences Wing Kashmir. Complaints can also be submitted through the official email address of the EOW Kashmir.
