Chandigarh, 22 August (H.S.):

India’s left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has said that the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League will provide a major platform for young cricketers from Punjab and could play an important role in shaping the next generation of players from the state.

The 2026 edition of the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League is scheduled to begin on August 30 at the IS Bindra Stadium in Chandigarh. Six teams will compete for the title, with several promising cricketers from Punjab expected to showcase their talent in the tournament.

Ludhiana Lions are among the participating teams and have selected Arshdeep Singh as their marquee player. The India pacer expressed his excitement about being part of the tournament and representing the Lions.

Speaking about the competition and his preparations, Arshdeep said he was delighted to be part of the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League and excited about the journey with the Ludhiana Lions. He said preparations had been progressing well, with the team spending considerable time working on their skills, understanding their respective roles and preparing for different match situations.

He added that the immediate focus was on carrying the confidence gained during training sessions into competitive matches.

Arshdeep also highlighted the positive atmosphere within the Ludhiana Lions camp, saying the players were encouraging one another during preparations. He said the squad had been training with seriousness and that healthy competition within the team was a positive sign.

The fast bowler noted that the team had also worked extensively on different match situations because circumstances can change rapidly in T20 cricket. A single over, partnership or wicket can alter the course of a match, he said, adding that the team was therefore concentrating on remaining prepared for every situation and making the right decisions under pressure.

With several quality players expected to feature in the tournament, Arshdeep believes the competition will be intense from the outset. However, he stressed the importance of avoiding excessive focus on the latter stages of the tournament and instead concentrating on one match at a time.

He said every team would have good players and no match in T20 cricket could be considered easy. According to Arshdeep, the Lions will look to give their best from the opening game, execute their plans and continue improving as the tournament progresses.

“If we continue to play consistently and stick to our plans, hopefully we will have a good campaign,” he said.

Arshdeep also underlined the importance of the league for young cricketers in Punjab. He believes sharing a dressing room with experienced players will give youngsters valuable opportunities to learn and develop. Watching senior cricketers train, prepare for matches and handle pressure situations could significantly contribute to the development of emerging players, he said.

Arshdeep stressed that the success of the league should not be judged solely by which team lifts the trophy. It should also be measured by how many young players receive an opportunity to establish themselves and take the next step in their careers.

Punjab, he noted, has consistently produced talented cricketers, and if the league helps more youngsters advance their careers, it would represent a significant achievement for the competition and the state’s cricketing ecosystem.
