Bhubaneswar, 22 August (H.S.): In a significant anti-corruption development, Odisha Vigilance has secured the conviction of Pravakar Behera, former Principal of the Government Driving Training School, Bhubaneswar, in a disproportionate assets (DA) case.

Behera, who has since retired, was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

On Saturday, the Special Judge, Special Court, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar, convicted Behera and sentenced him to three years of simple imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on him.

Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance will move the competent authority for stoppage of Behera's pension, in accordance with the applicable provisions.
