Guwahati, 22 August (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday announced that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, has formally approved Bongaigaon Medical College for admission of 100 MBBS students.

With the approval, Bongaigaon Medical College has become Assam’s 15th medical college. The state’s total number of MBBS seats has also increased to 1,925.

The Chief Minister described the development as a significant milestone in Assam’s efforts to emerge as a major centre for medical education.

Dr Sarma expressed gratitude to Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda for the approval and for the Centre’s continued support to Assam. He termed the development a proud moment for the state.---------------
