
Lucknow, 22 Aug (HS): Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath assured
the people of the state that there is no shortage of sugar in the state, so
ordinary citizens should not be worried. The state's sugar mills currently have
a stock of 179.38 lakh quintals of sugar. Sugar mills have sold 235 lakh
quintals of sugar in two months (June-July). Chief Minister Yogi directed that
sugar mills should be operational from October 15, if necessary.
Sugar mills should be operational from October 15: The Chief
Minister said in the review meeting that 23.60 lakh quintals of sugar is
available in the state in cooperative sugar mills, 5.28 lakh quintals in
corporation sugar mills and 150.50 lakh quintals in private sugar mills (total
179.38 lakh quintals). Additionally, sugar mills sold 235 lakh quintals of
sugar in June and July, most of which is still available in the open market. If
necessary, sugar mills should be operational from October 15.
Take action against those spreading confusion and black marketing:
Chief Minister Yogi appealed to the general public to be cautious of those
spreading misinformation by claiming a shortage of sugar. The Chief Minister
directed the administrative officials to take strict action against those
involved in sugar black marketing and spreading misinformation. In line with
the instructions of the Government of India, he said that no dealer will store
sugar stock for more than 30 days and they cannot keep more than 400 tonnes of
stock at a time. Bulk consumers (consumption of 10 metric tonnes per month)
also cannot keep stock for more than 15 days. Sugar mills will also not keep
the sugar sold under their monthly quota in the warehouse for more than seven
days from the date of sale.
Chief Minister gave instructions- District Magistrate should
conduct physical verification
The Chief Minister directed all District Magistrates to
conduct physical verification of all registered sugar mills, wholesalers, and
retailers' warehouses in the district and obtain a report on the actual status
of available stock. Strict action should be taken against hoarding or holding
stocks beyond the prescribed limit. Continuously monitor the availability and
price of sugar in the district and immediately inform the government of any
artificial shortage or price increase.
Rs. 32,554 crore paid to 48 lakh farmers: The Chief Minister
was informed during the meeting that 28.14 lakh hectares of sugarcane area is
expected for the 2026-27 crushing season. This is expected to produce 90 lakh
tons of sugar. The estimated sugar consumption in Uttar Pradesh is
approximately 4 lakh tons per month. More than Rs. 32,554 crore has been paid
to 48 lakh farmers for the 2025-26 crushing season.
