
Nagaon (Assam), 22 August (HS): Rupohihat Police in Assam’s Nagaon district arrested a man on Friday night in connection with the theft of betel nuts worth around ₹37 lakh. The arrested accused has been identified as Jiabur Rahman of Telia Chapari Toop.
According to police, Rahman was arrested based on a complaint filed by Khairul Islam. Police said the accused allegedly has links with the illegal trade of Burmese (Myanmar) betel nuts and is suspected to be among those involved in the theft.
The case has also raised allegations that a DSP posted in Guwahati and another person from Rupohihat allegedly attempted to intervene in favour of Rahman. According to the allegations, the officer arrived at Rupohihat Police Station in a black vehicle but reportedly left after noticing the presence of media personnel and cameras.
Police are currently questioning the accused and conducting efforts to identify and arrest others allegedly involved in the theft.
The investigation is underway, and further details will emerge after the probe is completed.----------
