Guwahati, 22 August (HS): Flood conditions in Assam have improved, but six districts continue to remain affected, with 15,512 people in 73 villages still facing the impact of the deluge. According to the latest Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) data, all major rivers are currently flowing below the danger mark.

Sivasagar, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon and Cachar are the affected districts, covering 13 revenue circles. Around 6,299 hectares of agricultural land remain submerged.

The state government has kept eight relief facilities operational, including five relief camps and three relief distribution centres. While 183 people are staying in relief camps, 4,979 non-camp residents are receiving assistance from distribution centres.

The flood-related death toll has reached 106. A total of 9,642 animals have also been affected, including 4,356 large animals, 2,694 small animals and 2,592 poultry birds.

Relief operations are continuing in the affected areas. One medical team was deployed on Wednesday, while essential supplies including 82.892 quintals of rice, 15.128 quintals of pulses, 4.5512 quintals of salt and 325.53 litres of mustard oil were distributed. Around 334.3 quintals of wheat bran were also supplied as animal feed.

The government is assessing extensive damage to roads, bridges and other infrastructure caused by the floods. Officials are also reviewing relief and rehabilitation measures to help affected families restore their homes and agricultural activities.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is in New Delhi, where he is meeting the Prime Minister and Union ministers to brief them on Assam’s flood situation and seek necessary support for relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction.-----------
