
Hooghly, 22 August (H.S.): Tension spread in Benga Uttarpara under Batanal Gram Panchayat in Arambagh after a man allegedly died following an assault by his wife. The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Partha Malik. Police have arrested his wife, Madhumita Malik, in connection with the incident.
According to the deceased’s family, Partha and Madhumita had been having domestic disputes for a long time, and Madhumita allegedly assaulted her husband on several occasions. On Saturday morning, an argument reportedly broke out between the couple over Madhumita’s plan to visit her parental home.
The family alleged that during the altercation, Madhumita attacked Partha with a nora (traditional grinding stone), following which he fell into a nearby waterbody. He allegedly died there.
Arambagh Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and took Madhumita to the police station for questioning. Later, Partha’s family lodged a complaint alleging murder at Arambagh Police Station. Acting on the complaint, police arrested Madhumita Malik.
The incident has created considerable tension in the area. Members of the deceased’s family and local residents have demanded a thorough investigation and strict punishment if the allegations against the accused are proved.
Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to Partha’s death and establish the sequence of events.
