
Bongaigaon (Assam), 22 August (HS): Assam’s Bongaigaon Railway Police seized 42.41 kg of ganja during an operation at New Bongaigaon Railway Station and arrested one person in connection with the alleged smuggling.
According to GRP sources, the operation was conducted on intervening night under the supervision of New Bongaigaon Railway Police officer Sanjeeb Choudhury. During a search of the AC coach of the down-bound Tripur Sundari Express, police recovered the contraband and arrested a passenger identified as Imran Sheikh.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the ganja was allegedly being transported from Agartala Railway Station in Tripura to Bengaluru. Railway Police have launched a further investigation to trace the source of the contraband and identify others allegedly involved in the smuggling network.
