Washington, 21 August (H.S.):
Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz is set to return to competitive action at the US Open, beginning August 30, after spending nearly four months on the sidelines due to injury. Alcaraz has been out of action since April because of a wrist injury.
Alcaraz has not played a competitive match since April 14. His injury forced him to miss both the French Open and Wimbledon. He will now return to the US Open with his sights set on defending his title. Alcaraz confirmed his return to the tournament through a social media post shared with transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, captioned “Here we go!” The post also featured references to the US flag and an aircraft.
Eyes on a Third US Open Title
After suffering the injury during the Barcelona Open in April, Alcaraz was replaced by Germany’s Alexander Zverev at No. 2 in the world rankings, while Jannik Sinner retained the top spot. Sinner had moved to the summit after defeating Alcaraz at the Monte Carlo Masters.
Alcaraz will enter the US Open looking to defend his title. He defeated Sinner in four sets in the 2025 final to claim his second US Open crown. He will now aim to lift the prestigious trophy for a third time.
