New Delhi, 21 August (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched a sharp attack on Rahul Gandhi over his protest outside the Parliament Street Police Station, asserting that the Supreme Court has already constituted a high-level committee to investigate the matter over which the Congress leader was staging a sit-in. The BJP also alleged that Gandhi sat in protest outside the police station without prior permission, despite the police having already clarified that an FIR had been registered and an investigation was underway.

BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, speaking to the media on Friday, said the committee constituted to investigate the matter is headed by a retired Supreme Court judge. He said the panel also comprises two other judges, a former CBI director and another senior official.

Prasad said the committee would also examine whether a gunshot had been fired during the incident. Targeting Rahul Gandhi, he asked, Does Rahul Gandhi have no respect for the rule of law? Will he go anywhere he wants and stage a protest, thereby creating anarchy?

The BJP MP accused Rahul Gandhi of pursuing the politics of anarchy by staging a protest outside the Parliament Street Police Station without permission or prior notice. He said the police had informed Gandhi that an FIR had already been registered in connection with the incident he was referring to and that the investigation was in progress.

Prasad reiterated that the Supreme Court had also constituted a high-powered committee to conduct an inquiry into the matter and questioned Gandhi's decision to stage a protest despite the ongoing legal and investigative process.
