
Imphal, 21 August (HS): Security forces in Manipur recovered a concealed cache of arms and ammunition and arrested two persons in separate operations conducted on August 20.
Based on specific inputs, a joint team of Moreh Police Station and 36 Assam Rifles launched an operation in the general area of BP 73 along the Indo-Myanmar border. During the operation, the team recovered a concealed cache from a forest area, including one M15 rifle with magazine, one MA G3 rifle with magazine, one country-made pistol, six single-barrel weapons, two country-made rifles, one .22 rifle, 10 radio sets, five drone bombs, five IEDs, one tear gas gun, 17 tear gas ammunition, two grenades, two BP jackets and five live rounds.
In another operation, Senapati District Police arrested two residents of Irang Part-1, Lamchok, under Kangpokpi Police Station, during frisking and checking at Khongnem Thana Village. The arrested persons were identified as 25-year-old Sanesh Limbu and 20-year-old Sachin Thapa.
Police seized 46 packets of suspected opium weighing approximately 45 kg, a Thar Roxx four-wheeler and ₹10,000 in cash from their possession.
Meanwhile, the Cyber Crime Police Station, Manipur arrested Ashem Rojit Singh (33), a resident of Palace Compound, Imphal East, and Nchumbemo Yanthan (34), of Mantripukhri Friends Colony, Imphal East, in connection with a case involving the alleged fraudulent taking of an iPhone 16 Pro Max advertised on Facebook Marketplace.
According to police, the accused allegedly contacted the complainant through a fake account and posed as genuine buyers. During a meeting, they took possession of the mobile phone and allegedly fled without making payment. Investigation has indicated that the accused may have followed a similar modus operandi in other cases involving sellers of high-end mobile phones advertised on Facebook Marketplace.
The Cyber Crime Police Station has advised citizens to verify the identity of prospective buyers or sellers, meet at safe locations and ensure that payment is fully received and verified before handing over valuable items.-----------
