
Bhubaneswar, 21 August (H.S.): The Hirakud Dam authorities on Friday closed four more sluice gates following a decline in the reservoir level, leaving 11 gates open—seven on the left spillway and four on the right.
According to the latest update, the reservoir’s total outflow stood at 2,07,141 cusecs, while 1,73,613 cusecs was being discharged through the spillway.
Earlier in the day, two sluice gates had been closed as the reservoir level showed a falling trend. At 9 am, the water level stood at 621.50 feet.
At that time, the average inflow into the reservoir was 2,59,805 cusecs, showing a rising trend, while the average outflow was 2,70,852 cusecs. Of the total outflow, 2,36,790 cusecs was released through the spillway, 31,182 cusecs through the power channel, 229 cusecs for industrial use and 2,651 cusecs through the canal system.
The dam authorities are closely monitoring the inflow, outflow and reservoir level and regulating the sluice gates accordingly.
