
Mumbai, 21 Aug (HS):
Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has banned sale of loose edible
oil from a packed oil tin or packets. FDA has stated that the decision to
impose the ban has been taken in favour of the health of consumers.
On every pack of oil
name of producer, quantity and other details must be mentioned. The retailers
cannot open the containers on demand of the customers and dispense the oil
without packs. The date from which the rules will be implemented and the
disposal of stocks with the producers will be announced soon.
ADULTERATION: FDA has made ruler relating to
adulteration of edible oil stricter. Those found adulterating oil may face a
fine up to Rs 10 lakh and/or imprisonment. The provision of the punishment is
applicable to owner of company, partners, manager and others who indulge in adulterating
the edible oil.
The guilty may face punishments as mentioned above
and also licence may be cancelled.
FDA field officers have been instructed to implement
the rules uniformly in effective manner.
