Siliguri, 21 August (H.S.): West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday said his government’s functioning would be guided by a four-point agenda aimed at bringing “transformative” change in the state, with national security and nationalism forming a key pillar.
Addressing an event in Siliguri, Adhikari said there would be no compromise on issues concerning national security and nationalism under his government.
“Our government has a four-pronged agenda — national security and nationalism, welfare, Centre-state coordination, and ensuring that the benefits of all schemes reach their intended beneficiaries,” the Chief Minister said.
Adhikari said that soon after assuming office, his government had handed over land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for the construction of fencing along West Bengal’s border with Bangladesh. He also highlighted the state government's decision to facilitate the Census process.
“There should be no politics over the Census. The previous government had not given consent to it. Soon after assuming charge, I directed the Chief Secretary to start the work immediately,” he said.
The Chief Minister also said that West Bengal had implemented the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), describing it as a major legal reform introduced under the Narendra Modi government. He alleged that the previous Trinamool Congress government had kept the implementation of the new criminal law pending in the state.
Adhikari said the four-point agenda would continue to guide his government as it works towards bringing what he described as a “transformative” change in West Bengal.
