
Guwahati, 21 August (HS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at Kartavya Bhawan in New Delhi and briefed her on the state’s ongoing response to the recent floods, including damage assessment, rehabilitation and reconstruction plans.
Sarma apprised the Union Finance Minister of the measures being taken to assess flood-related damages and the state government’s roadmap for rebuilding affected areas and restoring the livelihoods of flood-hit families.
Sharing details of the meeting on X, Sarma said Sitharaman heard Assam’s concerns with “great attention and sensitivity” and expressed gratitude for her positive response to the state’s requirements.
The Union Finance Minister assured the Chief Minister that the Government of India would continue to extend its support to Assam as the state works to help flood-affected families rebuild their lives.
The meeting comes as Assam continues its assessment of flood damage and prepares for the next phase of rehabilitation, reconstruction and livelihood restoration, particularly in the worst-affected districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat.---------------
