New Delhi, 20 August (H.S.): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin has launched a sharp attack on the Congress over the issue of 'Vande Mataram', alleging that the party has now turned what he described as an insult into an official resolution. He said the Congress Working Committee has decided that only the first two stanzas of 'Vande Mataram' will be sung at party programmes.

Nitin Nabin said in a post on X, A few days ago, the same insult was reflected in the conduct of an individual, which the Congress dismissed as a coincidence. But now, that same insult has become the official policy of the Congress.

He said that insulting the sacred invocation of 'Bharat Mata' also amounts to insulting the thousands of freedom fighters and martyrs who drew inspiration from 'Vande Mataram' and made the supreme sacrifice for the country.

According to Nabin, this is not merely a political defence but evidence of vote-bank politics, for which, he alleged, the Congress has repeatedly compromised the nation's self-respect.

Nabin further alleged that the Congress is now behaving like the new Muslim League and asserted that its position was contrary to national sentiment.
