Hooghly, 20 August (H.S.): West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari held an administrative meeting in Arambagh on Thursday to review preparations for tackling floods, road and connectivity infrastructure, the proposed Arambagh district and the construction of the Ramakrishna Bridge, among other key issues.
After attending an administrative meeting in Sabang, the Chief Minister reached Arambagh by helicopter. He then proceeded directly to the Arambagh Sub-Divisional Officer’s office, where he held discussions with administrative officials and four legislators from the subdivision.
At the beginning of the meeting, Adhikari sought a detailed assessment of the overall situation in the area from the officials. Special emphasis was placed on preparedness for possible flooding during the monsoon. The rising water levels of the Dwarkeswar and other rivers, along with the condition of embankments, were discussed in detail with Irrigation Department officials.
According to sources, the Chief Minister directed officials to identify vulnerable stretches of embankments and undertake immediate repairs. He reportedly warned Irrigation Department officials that negligence or unnecessary delays would not be tolerated. Adhikari stressed that all necessary preventive measures should be completed in advance rather than waiting for a flood situation to develop.
The meeting also focused on the development of roads and connectivity infrastructure in Arambagh, progress on the Ramakrishna Bridge project and the proposal to make Arambagh a separate district. Adhikari sought updates on various government projects, the obstacles affecting their progress and measures required to expedite their implementation.
Following the meeting, the administrative review is expected to give further impetus to development works and flood-management preparations in Arambagh.
