
Kolkata, 20 August (H.S.): West Bengal Labour and Transport Minister Arjun Singh on Thursday inaugurated a Rojgar Mela (Job Fair) and the Special Recruitment Camp for Jute Mill Workers-2026 at Kalyani Mahavidyalaya. The programme was organised by the Labour Department to facilitate employment opportunities for job-seekers and support recruitment in the private sector.
Kalyani MLA Anupam Biswas and Bijpur MLA Sudipta Das attended the programme as Guests of Honour. Director of Employment and Special Secretary of the Labour Department Swarup Kumar Malik, Kalyani Mahavidyalaya Principal Dr Runu Das and officials of the Directorate of Employment were also present.
Around 100 job-seekers participated in the Special Recruitment Camp for Jute Mill Workers-2026, organised by the authorities of Hukumchand Jute Mill. The camp provided prospective workers with an opportunity to seek employment in the jute industry.
Alongside the recruitment camp, around 500 job-seekers participated in the Rojgar Mela. Around 14 employers from different sectors took part in the event, including L&T, SIS Ltd., Muthoot Microfin Ltd., L&T Finance Ltd., Dr Reddy’s Foundation, S&IB Services Pvt. Ltd., Ouess Corp Ltd., CISS Services Ltd. and Aim High HR Solution, among others.
The participating organisations represented sectors including security services, finance, logistics, construction, manufacturing and other service industries, offering job-seekers a range of employment opportunities.
Around 600 candidates participated in the two recruitment initiatives. According to the Labour Department, approximately 350 candidates are expected to be shortlisted, while around 200 selected candidates are likely to receive joining letters in due course, subject to completion of the respective recruitment formalities.
The event was described as a major employment facilitation initiative of the Directorate of Employment under the Labour Department. It provided job-seekers with an opportunity to interact directly with prospective employers and explore private-sector employment opportunities without paying any fee.
The Labour Department reiterated its commitment to strengthening employment facilitation services and creating more opportunities for young people and job-seekers across West Bengal through regular job fairs, recruitment camps and other employment-oriented programmes.
The Rojgar Mela and Special Recruitment Camp in Kalyani are aimed at connecting job-seekers directly with employers and facilitating access to dignified employment opportunities at no cost to candidates.
