New Delhi, 20 August (H.S.): Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Thursday paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary. In a post on X, Vice President Radhakrishnan wrote, “I pay my respects to his memory and remember his service to the nation and his contribution to public life.”

The Vice President also paid homage on Thursday to martyr Ondiveeran, the commander of the forces of Veerapandiya Kattabomman’s contemporary, Veerapandiya Pulithevar. He said that Ondiveeran, the brave commander of Pulithevar’s formidable forces, left an indelible mark on the history of India’s freedom struggle through his fearless resistance against the dominance of the East India Company, as well as his courage, sacrifice and military skill.

Radhakrishnan said the spirit of Ondiveeran’s valour and his life of sacrifice would continue to inspire generations to come.
