New Delhi, 20 August (H.S.): Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday remembered his father, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, on his 82nd birth anniversary and described his mother, Sonia Gandhi, as a symbol of resilience and courage.
Rahul Gandhi shared an image of Sonia Gandhi's forthcoming autobiography, Belonging: A Journey of Love, and reflected on the hardships she faced after Rajiv Gandhi's death.
In a post on social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi said he had witnessed his mother confront every difficulty with courage and dignity after the death of his father. He said that only he and his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, knew how difficult life had been for Sonia Gandhi.
Expressing his pride that her story would soon be read by millions, Rahul Gandhi said that it must have been extremely difficult for someone as private as Sonia Gandhi to open up about her entire life before the world.
Rahul Gandhi also said that on his father's birth anniversary, he could imagine Rajiv Gandhi smiling and feeling proud of his “beautiful Sonia”.
Sonia Gandhi's autobiography, Belonging: A Journey of Love, is scheduled to be released on November 10 this year. The 544-page book is expected to chronicle her personal and political journey from Italy to India, offering an account of the experiences that shaped her life and public career.
