Protest by employees of 5 new GMCs enters 3rd day

Jammu, 20 August (H.S.): The indefinite protest by the non-gazetted employees of the five new Govt Medical Colleges entered the third consecutive day today.

The non-gazetted employees of all five New Government Medical Colleges of Jammu & Kashmir - Anantnag, Baramulla, Doda, Kathua and Rajouri - are continuing their indefinite peaceful protest, which commenced on August 17, 2026, demanding the finalization and notification of their Recruitment/Service Rules.

The peaceful protest has now entered its third consecutive day, yet, according to the protesting employees, no concrete response, official communication or meaningful intervention has been received so far from the concerned Jammu & Kashmir Health & Medical Education (JKHME) Department.

The employees have stated that the prolonged delay in finalizing the Recruitment/Service Rules has resulted in continued uncertainty regarding their service conditions, promotional avenues, career progression and future prospects. Despite rendering their services for several years in the newly established Government Medical Colleges, the employees are still awaiting a finalized service framework governing their respective posts and career progression.

The employees have emphasized that their demand is legitimate, reasonable and directly related to their professional future.

The protesting employees have expressed serious concern over the continued silence of the concerned authorities and have appealed to the Lieutenant Governor's Administration, Minister for Health & Medical Education and senior officers of the JKHME Department to take immediate cognizance of the matter.
