Hooghly, 20 August (H.S.): Authorities have stepped up enforcement of fire safety measures in Serampore. On Thursday, a joint team comprising Serampore Police Station, the Fire Department and Serampore Municipality conducted inspections at several hotels and guest houses across the city to assess their fire safety arrangements.
During the drive, officials checked whether the hotels and guest houses had adequate fire safety equipment and emergency preparedness to deal with any eventuality. The condition of firefighting equipment, emergency response measures and evacuation arrangements were also inspected.
Officials specifically verified whether the establishments had valid and updated fire safety certificates. The operators were also asked to produce relevant fire safety documents, while the authorities assessed compliance with prescribed safety norms.
The joint inspection was aimed at ensuring the safety of guests staying at hotels and guest houses and minimising the risk of casualties and property damage in the event of a fire.
Officials warned that establishments found violating mandatory fire safety norms could face action in accordance with the rules.
