Pathania for permanent solution of recurring flooding along Dhar Road

Jammu, 20 August (H.S.):P MLA Udhampur East Ranbir Singh Pathania convened a high-level review meeting at the Conference Hall of the DC Office, Udhampur, to chalk out a permanent and comprehensive solution to recurring waterlogging and flooding along Dhar Road and adjoining areas of Sattani, Sountha, Channi Morh, Bredian and Jaganoo Morh.

The meeting followed a detailed spot inspection of the affected areas, where storm-water discharge and inadequate drainage arrangements were examined. Senior representatives of HQ 611 AD Brigade, NHAI, 35 BRTF (GREF), Irrigation & Flood Control, Revenue, Police, Northern Railways and other departments attended the meeting.

Pathania stressed that the issue required a coordinated, scientific and catchment-based approach instead of isolated construction of drains and culverts. He directed departments to ensure proper channelization of storm water originating from highways, railway premises, hill slopes and other catchments, while preventing damage to residential areas, agricultural land and commercial establishments.

Northern Railways was asked to prepare a drainage management plan within its limits, incorporating drains, catch-pits, retaining structures, culverts and proper outfall arrangements. NHAI was directed to formulate a storm-water management plan for the existing and proposed highway and ensure channelization towards KV Nallah, while exploring diversion towards Jaganoo Nallah.

The Irrigation & Flood Control Department was tasked with preparing a drainage master plan for the entire Dhar Road catchment, focusing on two low-lying canal areas identified as major water-accumulation zones, along with hydraulic studies and permanent flood-mitigation measures.
