Premium amount will be returned as arrears to teachers and
non-teaching staff appointed after March 31, 2014
Lucknow, 20 Aug (HS): The Yogi government has provided significant relief to teachers and
non-teaching staff of the state's Basic Education Council by deciding to refund
over Rs. 134 crore of Group Insurance Scheme (GIS) premium deductions. The
government has granted financial and administrative approval for this amount,
totaling Rs. 1,34,60,14,258. This amount will be returned to the concerned
teachers and non-teaching staff as arrears.
Under the financial approval order issued by Additional Chief Secretary, Basic
Education, Partha Sarathi Sen Sharma, the GIS premium amount deducted from
salaries between March 31, 2014, and September 1, 2022, will be refunded to the
employees' accounts. In this regard, necessary guidelines have been issued to
the District Drawing and Disbursing Officers and Block Education Officers
(BEOs) of the Basic Education Department.
Minister of State for Basic Education (Independent Charge) Sandeep Singh stated
that the Yogi government is fully committed to the welfare and protection of
the interests of teachers and non-teaching staff. The decision to refund the
long-pending group insurance scheme deduction reflects the government's transparent
and sensitive approach. He stated that over Rs. 134 crore will be transferred
directly to the employees' accounts as arrears. Officials have been instructed
to verify and reconcile all records as required and ensure prompt payment
through a one-time and transparent process.
The teachers and non-teaching staff of the Basic Education Council appointed
after March 31, 2014 will benefit from this decision. The amount of GIS premium
deducted from the salary between March 31, 2014 and September 1, 2022 will be
returned to the concerned employees. Before payment, the relevant Block
Education Officer will match the available records and check their accuracy.
After this, the deducted amount will be paid in one lump sum to the eligible
employees as arrears. The government has also given instructions to ensure
transparency and accountability in the payment process.
The government has clarified that if any irregularities are found in the
payment process, the relevant Block Education Officer and Disbursing Officer
will be held responsible. This is a major relief to the teachers and
non-teaching staff of the Basic Education Council, who have been waiting for a
long time to receive their GIS deductions back.
