ED widens exalogic probe to Dubai, may question Veena Vijayan again
Exalogic and Veena

Kochi, 20 August (H.S.):The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified its investigation against T. Veena, daughter of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in connection with the alleged financial transactions between Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) and her company, Exalogic Solutions.

The agency is examining whether foreign exchange regulations were violated in the transfer of money abroad. According to investigators, handwritten accounts allegedly recovered from Veena contain an entry stating that ₹85 lakh was sent to Dubai.

The ED is attempting to establish how the money was transferred, who received it and whether the transaction violated the Foreign Exchange Management Act. The investigation has consequently been extended to Dubai.

Officials are also examining whether the funds handled by Veena were disproportionate to her declared income. She may be summoned for another round of questioning next week following the latest findings.

The agency is separately investigating the alleged use of a SIM card obtained in another person’s name. The SIM was reportedly registered in the name of Kozhikode DYFI leader Nandulal but used by Veena from 2024.

Nandulal allegedly told investigators that he obtained the SIM at the request of Veena and Mohammed Riyas. He said Riyas was a close friend and that he also knew Veena, but claimed he was unaware of the purpose for which the SIM was used.

The ED suspects that the SIM may have facilitated internet-based communication linked to possible hawala transactions. Investigators said it was installed in a Wi-Fi router and primarily used for internet calls.

Nandulal had served as a destination manager with the Kozhikode District Tourism Promotion Council when Riyas was Kerala’s Tourism Minister. During a recent search of Nandulal’s residence, the ED reportedly seized copies of documents used to obtain the SIM.

The agency is now scrutinising communications and transactions allegedly conducted using the number. No conclusive finding of wrongdoing has yet been announced.
