Raipur, 20 August (H.S.): The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday conducted a search at the residence of former Chhattisgarh Congress treasurer Ramgopal Agrawal on Sihawa Road in Dhamtari. An ED team reached Agrawal’s residence at around 7 a.m. in two separate vehicles.

According to reliable sources, one of the teams comprises eight members, including security personnel. Security forces have been deployed outside the residence, and no one is being allowed to enter the premises. Officials are examining documents and other relevant records inside the house.

The ED has alleged that Ramgopal Agrawal played a key role in laundering illegal commissions generated by a syndicate and disposing of black money amounting to crores of rupees. Congress leader Ramgopal Agrawal is currently lodged in Raipur Central Jail.

In connection with the widely discussed liquor and coal levy scam cases in Chhattisgarh, investigative agencies had questioned Agrawal and taken him into custody. After the completion of the interrogation and custodial remand, the court sent him to judicial custody. He was already lodged in the Central Jail as an undertrial prisoner.

Meanwhile, on August 11, 2026, the Enforcement Directorate formally arrested Agrawal from inside the jail in connection with the money-laundering case linked to the liquor scam. Following his arrest, a special PMLA court remanded him to ED custody until August 18.
