New Delhi, 20 August (H.S.): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Jitendra Pathak, a proclaimed offender who had been absconding for nearly a decade in a case involving an alleged fraud of Rs 50,000 on the promise of securing a job in Parliament by falsely claiming to be an employee of the Lok Sabha Secretariat. The CBI arrested him from Ludhiana, Punjab, on August 19.
According to the CBI, a case was registered against Pathak and others in 2009. After completing its investigation, the agency filed a charge sheet against the accused. However, Pathak failed to appear before the court after the charge sheet was filed and could not be traced despite sustained efforts.
Following the completion of the prescribed legal process, the concerned trial court declared Pathak a proclaimed offender on September 28, 2016.
The CBI said the case was registered on July 13, 2009, against Jitendra Pathak and other accused on allegations that they had cheated a private individual by taking Rs 50,000 on the false assurance of securing a job in Parliament. After the investigation was completed, a charge sheet was filed against Pathak and another accused.
After Pathak repeatedly failed to appear before the court, the CBI continued efforts to trace him. During investigation and field verification, the agency received information that Pathak was residing in Ludhiana, Punjab.
Based on technical analysis and other intelligence inputs, the CBI subsequently conducted an operation and arrested him in Ludhiana on August 19.
The agency said sustained efforts were made at both the technical and field levels to trace the proclaimed offender. Further legal proceedings in the case are currently underway.
