Hooghly, 20 August (H.S.): Eleven cows and seven calves were rescued during an overnight operation at Niaz Parking in Dankuni. The operation was carried out from around midnight until the early hours of Thursday following information about the alleged illegal transportation of cattle.

Several leaders and workers of the Serampore organisational district BJP, including Sukanta Majhi, Gunjan Chakraborty and Subhajit Majhi, participated in the rescue operation.

According to those involved in the operation, the cattle were rescued from the parking area and subsequently handed over for safe transportation to a gaushala with the cooperation of the local administration.

The police seized the vehicles used in connection with the suspected illegal activity. Further investigation into the matter is underway.

BJP leaders said the operation was conducted to prevent illegal cattle trafficking and cruelty towards animals. They also thanked the police and administration for their prompt cooperation in ensuring the safety of the rescued cattle.

The rescued cows and calves have since been shifted to a gaushala, they said.
