Bhubaneswar, 20 August (H.S.): Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling visited the prestigious Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC-ITS) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, to review its advanced healthcare infrastructure, medical research facilities and specialised transplant procedures.

During the visit, Mahaling was accompanied by the CEO of i-Hub. He interacted with five young paediatric kidney transplant recipients from Odisha—Saina Sradha Das of Bhadrak, Nisant Singh of Sundargarh, Puskar of Keonjhar, Sudarshan of Puri and Kabyanjali of Balasore—along with their donors.

The minister also met an Odia patient who had successfully undergone robotic surgery for prostate cancer. He said interacting with the patients and witnessing their recovery was deeply encouraging.

Dr Pranjal R. Modi, Vice-Chancellor of GUTS and Director of IKDRC-ITS, along with the institute’s Heads of Departments, briefed the minister on the centre’s achievements and advancements in specialised transplantation.

The discussions covered developments in kidney, liver, pancreas and uterus transplantation, as well as other state-of-the-art medical facilities and procedures.

Mahaling said the insights gained from such world-class medical institutions would be valuable in Odisha’s efforts to strengthen tertiary healthcare, specialised medical infrastructure and high-quality treatment facilities.
