New Delhi, 02 August (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva–Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’ through video conferencing on Sunday, marking the beginning of a nationwide movement aimed at creating a drug-free India by empowering the country's youth. The initiative seeks to encourage young people to reject substance abuse and become ambassadors of awareness, responsibility, and positive social change.

According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the launch will also mark the commencement of a 100-week nationwide ‘Jan Bhagidari Abhiyan’ against drug abuse. As part of the campaign, awareness and public participation programmes will be organised every Sunday across the country to strengthen community involvement in preventing substance abuse.

The campaign will feature a wide range of activities, including sports competitions, walkathons, meditation sessions, cultural performances, awareness drives, street plays, panel discussions, art competitions, and community outreach programmes. These initiatives are designed to educate people about the harmful effects of drug addiction while encouraging collective action towards building a healthier and drug-free society.

The government aims to transform the campaign into a nationwide people's movement by bringing together educational institutions, youth organisations, civil society groups, industry bodies, and spiritual organisations on a common platform. The initiative is expected to promote greater awareness, strengthen preventive efforts, and encourage active participation from all sections of society.

More than 10,000 locations across the country are expected to participate in the launch event. Thousands of volunteers from MY Bharat, the National Service Scheme (NSS), youth clubs, schools, colleges, universities, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), youth wings of industry associations, and representatives of over 125 partner spiritual organisations will join the programme virtually.

The campaign forms part of the government's broader efforts to tackle substance abuse through awareness, community engagement, and youth participation. Officials believe that sustained public involvement over the next 100 weeks will help strengthen the fight against drug addiction while promoting a healthier, more responsible, and socially aware generation.

The Prime Minister is expected to address participants during the virtual launch and call upon young people to lead the movement by spreading awareness about the dangers of substance abuse and contributing towards the vision of a developed and drug-free India.
