Kolkata, 02 August (H.S.) : The West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Sunday paid rich tributes to eminent scientist, educationist and industrialist Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray on the occasion of his 165th birth anniversary.

Marking the occasion, Assembly Principal Secretary Somendra Nath Das and Joint Secretary Ashok Mandal offered floral tributes at the statue of Acharya Ray installed within the Assembly premises.

Widely regarded as the father of modern chemistry in India, Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray founded Bengal Chemical and Pharmaceutical Works to promote indigenous industries under the Swadeshi movement. Besides being a pioneering scientist, he was a distinguished educationist, social reformer and nationalist thinker whose contributions to science, education and nation-building continue to inspire generations.

The West Bengal Legislative Assembly has a long-standing tradition of commemorating the birth and death anniversaries of eminent personalities from the state and the country. Continuing this tradition, members and officials paid heartfelt homage to Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray on the occasion of his 165th birth anniversary.
