Kochi, 02 August (H.S.): The Tamil Nadu government on Sunday advised devotees ok planning a pilgrimage to the Sabarimala temple in Kerala to reconsider their travel plans as heavy rains, flooding and the threat of landslides continue to affect the Pamba region and several other parts of the neighbouring State.

The advisory was issued as a precautionary measure following persistent monsoon rainfall in Kerala, which has triggered flooding, landslides and disruptions to road traffic in several areas. Pamba, the principal transit point for pilgrims heading to the hill shrine, is among the areas facing heightened risks due to the prevailing weather conditions.

The government cautioned that continued rainfall and rising water levels could increase the possibility of landslides and other rain-related incidents along routes used by pilgrims. Devotees from Tamil Nadu have therefore been asked to review their travel plans and, wherever possible, postpone their pilgrimage until conditions improve.

“Due to heavy rainfall and flooding, there is a possibility of landslides in the Pamba region. Devotees intending to undertake the Sabarimala pilgrimage are advised to reconsider their travel plans until weather conditions improve,” the advisory said.

The warning comes amid widespread disruption caused by the monsoon across Kerala. Heavy rainfall has affected normal life in several districts, with flooding and landslides reported from vulnerable areas. Traffic movement has also been affected on some routes, particularly in hilly regions.

Weather alerts have been issued for several districts in Kerala, while disaster management authorities have urged residents and travellers to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary journeys to areas vulnerable to flooding and landslides.

Tamil Nadu officials also asked pilgrims to closely follow weather forecasts and official advisories issued by the Kerala government and disaster management agencies before setting out on their journey.

The State government said the advisory was intended to ensure the safety of devotees travelling through the Pamba river basin and other rain-affected areas on their way to Sabarimala.
