Hailakandi (Assam), 02 August (HS): The alleged rape and brutal murder of a 15-year-old ninth-grade student in Hailakandi district of Assam has caused widespread shock and anger across the region.

According to police sources, the incident took place at a house near National Highway-6 in Aloichera village, under Katalichera police station. It is alleged that while the family members were away attending a nearby religious ceremony, the assailant raped the teenage girl and then attacked her head and other parts of the body with bricks to destroy evidence. She killed on the spot due to severe injuries.

Hailakandi police have started an investigation and arrested five suspects, questioning them further. It has also come to light that one of the detainees is a minor.

In protest against this heinous act, angry locals blocked National Highway-6. Several vehicles remained stranded for hours on this important Assam-Mizoram connecting route. The protesters are demanding strict punishment, the death penalty for the culprits, and a fast trial.----------
