
Imphal, 02 August (HS): Security forces and Manipur Police have intensified their operations against insurgents, illegal arms and contraband across the state. In separate operations, police seized a large quantity of illicit country liquor, recovered arms and explosives and arrested an active militant.
According to Manipur Police, on Sunday, officers intercepted a Maruti Swift car (MN-06A-7989) at Kakching Lamkhai and recovered 429 litres of distilled indigenous country liquor (DIC) concealed in 40 plastic packets. Two persons, identified as Hijam Yohenba Singh (25) and Ningthoujam Joykumar Singh (44), both residents of Andro Kharam Leikai in Imphal East district, were arrested in connection with the seizure.
In another operation conducted on Saturday, security forces recovered a cache of arms and explosives from a forest area between International Border Pillars 72 and 73 under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district. The recovered items included a 9 mm pistol, a double-barrel gun, six radio sets, two hand grenades and six improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The IEDs were destroyed at the spot.
In a separate operation on the same day, security forces arrested an active cadre of the RPF/PLA from his residence at Awangkhunou Lamkhai under Patsoi Police Station in Imphal West district. The arrested militant has been identified as Wahengbam Mede Singh alias Loya (24).
Police said separate cases have been registered in connection with the incidents, and further investigation is underway.-----------
