Washington, 02 August (H.S.): US President Donald Trump announced that the United States has called off a planned military strike against Iran following progress in diplomatic negotiations. He said the decision was taken after Iran and several countries in the Middle East urged Washington to halt military action as an outline of a broader agreement had been reached.

Making the announcement on his Truth Social platform on Saturday night (local time), President Trump said the United States was fully prepared to launch military action against Iran but had decided to suspend the operation in the interest of peace and regional stability.

According to Trump, the proposed agreement would include the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the elimination of what he described as the Iranian nuclear threat. He also claimed that Israel supports the decision to suspend the planned strike and remains committed to the proposed framework.

The White House has not yet issued an official statement regarding the announcement.

In his Truth Social post, Trump wrote, The United States is fully prepared to take action against Iran. Our military strength and capabilities are at a level not seen since the Second World War. Nevertheless, Iran and other countries in the Middle East have asked us to halt any attack because an outline of an agreement has been reached. The proposed agreement would include the immediate and complete reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the elimination of Iran's nuclear threat.

He further said, Honouring this request, I have decided to cancel the attack for the benefit of the future of the world and the existence of a successful and prosperous Iran, provided that a final agreement can be reached soon. Israel is also with me in this commitment.

The announcement comes amid continuing diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East. However, there has been no official confirmation from Iran or other governments regarding the reported framework of the proposed agreement.
